In 1986, Ferris Bueller had a day off, the New York Mets won the World Series, and perhaps most famously…NHM launched the Bug Fair. There have been countless entomological discoveries since then – some right here in Los Angeles by NHM researchers and friends. Our Spider Survey found the first documented brown widows in the city; our scientists discovered 42 new fly species in L.A. just in the last year. For three decades, Bug Fair has inspired wonder among guests, no matter what their age. Bug Fair has connected scientists with the community, so they can geek out together.

Join us on May 21 and 22 for a two-day festival celebrating 30 years of Bug Fair – our winged, multi-legged, squirmy, and sometimes bug-eyed friends. Visit a variety of exhibitors – and see everything from exotic insect collections to pet tarantulas, from millipedes to centipedes, from bug-related products, like honey and silk, to bug-inspired artwork and jewelry. Enjoy a special cook-off with your favorite Bug Chefs as they whip up protein-filled snacks. The weekend will be filled with bug hunts, performances, up-close encounters with crawly creatures, and more!
