Charles Gaines: Gridwork 1974-1989 is the first museum survey of the early work of Gaines’s career and includes rare, never-before-seen works, some of which were presumed lost. Charles Gaines, an artist based in Los Angeles, is best known for his photographs, drawings and works on paper that investigate how rules-based procedures construct order and meaning. Organized by The Studio Museum in Harlem, the exhibition on is on view at the Hammer from Saturday, February 7 – Sunday, May 24.
