What to Watch on a Rainy CA Weekend

1.6.17

Seems like a perfect weekend to watch movies, given the darkening skies and chilly air.

There’s a lot to take in this weekend:

Singing in the Rain

The HBO documentary about Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, Bright Lights, airs Saturday at 8:00 PM on HBO.  Get in the mood by watching one of the greatest films of all time, Singing in the Rain.

The Golden Globes air on Sunday night with Jimmy Fallon hosting. NBC coverage starts at 4PM on the west coast.

Umbrellas of Cherbourg

Two great films will screen at the Aero in Santa Monica on Sunday (1/8) starting at 5PM from our friends at American Cinematheque. Put the Golden Globes on your DVR list, and catch An American in Paris and The Umbrellas of Cherbourg. Umbrellas of Cherbourg is often noted as inspiration for La La Land, which is our favorite film of the year, and this is a nice chance to see it on the big screen.

For the kids:

Zootopia is in the hunt for awards, and remains on the top lists of films from 2016. We love The Eagle Huntress and Kubo and the Two Strings, as well.

You can learn more about filmmaking techniques of the LAIKA studios at Universal this month, at a show called From Coraline to Kubo. Tickets need to be purchased here.
