ARCHIVED EVENT: What To Read: Adult Book Groups

10.21.11

One of the most memorable books I read this year was The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, a non-fiction page-turner from Rebecca Skloot (who is speaking at UCLA’s Royce Hall on November 1 at 8:00 PM).  Oprah is making a movie of the book, which explores the bioethical issues behind the true story of a poor, Southern woman whose cells were taken from her during a surgery for ovarian cancer in the 1950s, and grew so rapidly that they were cultured and are still used in valuable medical research.
