PST: LA/LA at the Skirball Cultural Museum

11.8.17

The Skirball has two intriguing exhibits in the citywide art survey Pacific Standard Time and it’s worth a trip up the hill to see both at one of our favorite museum venues in LA.

The first show is called Another Promised Land: Anita Brenner’s Mexico and investigates the life and work of an American born and Mexico raised woman who dedicated her life to sharing the rich cultural heritage of Mexico with Americans. She hung out with artists such as Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo and Tina Mondotti as a young woman, and produced a magazine called Mexico This Month for twenty years, promoting tourism and cultural exchange between two countries that she loved.

The second show, opening October 6, explores murals in Los Angeles. Surface Tension by Ken Gonzales-Day: Murals, Signs, and Mark-Making in LA is a photo essay exploring the murals around Los Angeles. The exhibit will have a cool floor map, indicating the location of all the murals.
