Santa Monica Farmers Market Bounty

Foraged Finds is a new section of my newsletter – just random bits and bobs about life right now, which will now also be hosted here on the site. Hope you enjoy it, and maybe it will inspire you to sign up for the newsletter, which comes out every week (or so!).

Food: Joan’s on Third has takeaway cookie decorating kits (click on the Gift menu); this is the BEST caramel apple; Eater LA compiled a great guide to local food gifts. Did you know you can order these pies and pick them up at the Santa Monica Farmers’ Market?

Get some Guidance: I’m infatuated with Wildsam, a series of “field guides with a sense of wonder” that include literature, history and local tastemaker advice. I discovered the brand in a bookstore in Santa Fe and am starting a small library of my own, as well as giving them as gifts; the latest is a guide to Kentucky’s bourbon makers. The LA Times published a nice list of public gardens. Here is Hyperallergic’s December Art Guide for LA. For spiritual guidance, Brene Brown’s latest book just dropped and is sure to be a holiday star.

Projects: I used Motif for all my photo books this holiday – you can do it from your phone or iPad easily. We have used an online interface for White Elephant gift exchanges last year, which works if you are exchanging gifts through Zoom this year.

Because, why not?  Did you know that you can ice skate at Dodger Stadium through the end of the year? Tickets must be purchased in advance and includes equipment, but you will need to reserve a parking spot, separately.
