As part of their family On-Site: North Hollywood series, LACMA presents Collaborative Printmaking on Saturday, January 21. Printmaking originated in China around 15 AD and was adopted in Europe in the 15th century. Artists make prints as a study (this can also include drawing or sketch done in preparation for a final artwork), reproduction of their primary work, or for economic reasons, as they are less expensive to reproduce. Printing methods evolved as technology advanced, but the creative collaboration among the individuals involved in the process (the artists, printmasters, writers, and publishers) remain.
