Traveling in Place… for Now

There’s no doubt that changing the scenery in general (and being in nature, in particular) reduces stress and improves our overall mental health.  One way to get out from under the crush of pandemic and political news is to make the most of local destinations..

Winter is the perfect time to explore The Huntington‘s extensive gardens and grounds while the days are not too warm. The Camellia forests at Descanso Gardens are incredible, and cherry trees come online any minute. While the rest of the world beats a path to Sofi Stadium over the next two weeks for football, why not head to Pasadena? Or Venice (ideas below)! The photo above was taken at UCLA’s Mildred E. Mathias Botanical Garden, which offers a quick respite if you’re in Westwood.

As for the football excitement, here’s an interesting history of how the SoFi stadium – and the Super Bowl – wound up in Inglewood. Seems as though the shiny behemoth sprung up overnight, but it’s been a long battle between billionaires to make it happen. Go Rams!
