Village Well Books and Coffee

Culver City has a terrific new bookstore, run by Jennifer Casper (profiled HERE in the LA Times). Casper started this venture during Covid and certainly struggled to stay afloat. But her instincts for community paid off – and when I visited on a Saturday recently, her place was PACKED. The staff is helpful and the energy of the place dynamic, with young people drinking coffee and having light meals with friends or while working on a computer at her in-house cafe. Of course, many others were browsing titles in her welcoming stacks of books.

With programming all through the week, this is a place to put on your list – it’s certainly a neighborhood haunt – but possesses an energy that will draw you from across town, especially given that Casper has robust children programming as well as events for adults in the evening. Now Serving LA

Way back when, 3rd Street boasted side-by-side travel and cooking book stores – and I could spend hours lost in the stacks. LA now has a new cookbook store, nestled in a strip mall in Chinatown with a welcoming energy and overspilling with cooking knowledge.

The owners log videos of their virtual events with chefs on their website here, and have a newsletter and IG account that will help you keep up to date.
