Kids love the bright, abstract prints and paintings of Ellsworth Kelly, perhaps because they can relate to the large, geometric and colorful forms in a “heck, I can do that!” kind-of-way! Adults (and everyone in between) can appreciate the clean and peaceful simplicity of the work, which can be seen in two places around town right now. Ellsworth Kelly: Prints and Paintings is a wonderful, expansive show at LACMA, and a group of new paintings is at Matthew Marks Gallery. Being in the large LACMA galleries with these gleeful images is a giddy delight.
